Background information scientific name and when and how it was introducedCane toads are amphibians which means they live in the water and on land during their life cycle. The cane toad has two scientific names: Rhinella marina and Bufo marinus which mean marine toad. They were introduced to Queensland from South America on the 22nd of June, 1935, to kill the cane beetle which was eating all the sugar cane and was a real pest. Unfortunately the cane toads failed to kill the cane beetles but even worse, it started to become a pest.
